Cholet, Town of History

Cholet is not only the capital of the military Vendee, the heart of the “disruption” of 1793, but also known as a textile industrial centre and manufacturer between the two wars. It has become a modern regional centre of diversified activities, and often a leader on the market. Cholet is rich from its deep values inherited from the past: the entrepreneurial spirit, the will to succeed, audacity… Cholet’s way of thinking has been formed, day after day, through its strong values being used in a human way in a favourable environment. This has created what we know as “Entrepreneurial Cholet”.

A story too great to be held in a handkerchief

Built on a ground of historic importance Cholet started its textile career from XII century, thanks to the cultivation of linen. In the XV century Antoinette de Magnelais, cousin of Agnès Sorel and mistress of the Duke of Brittany Francois II, with whom she had three children, made Cholet the encounter of pleasure and rejoicing. The Art and History Museum, unexpected encounter...

In the heart of the town, the Art and History Museum proposes to discover an exceptional collection, in spacious and bright rooms, where sculptures, paintings, tapestry and objects of memory cohabit. The visit declines in two parts around fascinating galleries mainly dedicated to the history of the Vendee War and to the development of Art from XVI to XX century. More information
